Chapter -11 interpersonal relationships at home and at work. Family types: natural or nuclear mother, father, and their biological children, blended- two adults and their children. For some families, tradition, stability, and historical perspective are important to a sense of comfort and well-being. Other families that are less tradition-bound are better able to adapt to new circumstances: cohesion the emotional bonding and feelings of togetherness that families experience. Family cohesion ranges from excessively tight, or enmeshed, to disengaged. Because family systems are dynamic, families usually move back and forth along the continuum from disengaged to enmeshed: the third key element in the model is communication. Workplace communication: upward communication: talking with your boss. Involves the flow of communication from subordinates to superiors. Who does communicate upwards boss, president, ceo, etc: downward communication: talking with your subordinates. Refers to the flow of information from those higher up in an organization to those of lower rank.
