Most commonly and simply politics is understood as the art and science of government = as the affairs of state. This common understanding, however, is overly narrow and problematic = it rests on a false distinction between the state/government and society. Ultimately, the state is rooted in society = the state maintains a particular social order = interactions between state and society are at the core of politics. If politics is about social relations and making decisions for society it follows that politics is the study of the exercise of power . Political science devoted to the study of power"s various distributions, uses and outcomes . Government; civil service -police, policy makers: study: how the state works and how it is organized. The state is rooted in society (influences it, is dependent on it) (i. e. , individuals and groups) Relationships of control, power and organization in society.
