POSC 1100U Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Melting Pot, Racialization, Intersectionality
Document Summary
Maintaining equilibrium or balance is one of the core concerns of any system. All systems operate in relationship with other systems. Each systems always has to respond to external influences. Focuses on the interaction between systems; any change in any part of the system will have an impact on the entire system. A healthy community takes care of its parts while conducting transactions with larger systems in order to get what it needs. Change happens when those within the system recognize the problem and take purposeful action. Organizations: economy, interaction between microsystems, personal settings, family, work, school. The degree of difficulty will be heightened when conflict or power imbalances have characterized the interaction between groups- even if these imbalance do not seem to you to be operating in the present moment . What may be appropriate in one situation maybe inappropriate in another (johnson, 2001)
