PSYC 2060U Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Semantic Network, Encoding Specificity Principle, Test Anxiety
Document Summary
Slide 2: long-term memory is a repository storing information. Slide 3: primary and recency effect occur because: recency effect is more recent, the new piece of info comes in and we are able to hold that in the stm (typically 7 items). Primacy effect the bi-directional arrow is supposed to indicate (10mins), this implies that stm takes time to transfer to ltm. This simple graph and curve says a lot about stm and ltm. Slide 4: more time to rehearse, in particular its able to enter ltm. In murdoch, they had to write down as many letters they remembered (results in slide 2) Slide 5: archive info about past events, works closely with working memory (stm). Storage stretches from a few moments ago to as far back as one can remember. Stm lasts for about 18 secs, without any interference. If it is not remembered for 18 secs or longer, it is gone.
