What is development: when we say reading skills develop in children, we mean there is a change over time. Developmental changes: development = change over time, physical growth, cognitive abilities, social skills, emotional responses, etc. Motor development gain ability to lift our heads, sit up, crawl to walk: quantitative changes in amount. After babies start to lift heads, they start to lift a little bit higher and higher and then able to lift on hands, etc. Development changes in quality also: i. e. language development. Vocabulary growth (encompassed by language development) comparing 2 year old to 5 year old is qualitatively different. Asking what is the nature of developmental change. How much does dev"t continue, how much does it lead to new. Is it gradual, or is it rapid and sudden change: sources of development. What are the causes of dev change.
