Disordered thinking in which ideas are not logically related. Schizophrenia sometimes begins in childhood; however, it usually appears in late adolescence or early adulthood. Typically a number of acute episodes of their symptoms. Between episodes, they often have less severe but still very debilitating symptoms: most are treated in the community; however, hospitalization is sometimes necessary. Excesses or bizarre additions or distortions to a person"s thoughts, emotions, or behaviours. Beliefs that are held but are contrary to reality. Common delusions: delusions of persecution, delusions of reference, delusions of grandeur, delusions of control. Found in more than half of people with schizophrenia. Sensory perceptions in the absence of any stimulation from the environment. Somatic (sensations that things are inside the body) Gustatory (tasting things that are not present: olfactory (sensing odors that are not present)
