ANP 1105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Holocrine, Desmosome, Nephron
Document Summary
Groups of structurally similar cells that perform common or related functions. Forms boundaries, protects, filters, forms the lining of hollow organs and cavities, and skin. Found above and attached to connective tissues. Glandular refers to the layer of skin that lines tudes, ducts, cavities and vessels. This simply means that they have a top (apical) and bottom (basal) The basal lamina is noncellular (does not have cells), it is an underlying supportive sheet primarily glycoproteins and collagen (for filtration and support) Epithelial cells has specialized contact in the form of tight junction and desmosomes (see below) The basement membrane is made up of the basal lamina and the reticular lamina. The apical layer is non vascular meaning it does not have it"s own blood supply, the reticular lamina is highly vascular which feeds the upper layers. The basement membrane is highly regenerative due to the ease of access to nutrients from the reticular lamina.
