ANP 1106 Lecture 8: Anatomy Lecture 8
Document Summary
Muscles: only responsible for the ones we talk about in class not every one in the chapter. Recall that muscle ber is the name of a single muscle tissue cell. Most muscles are attached to bones in at least 2 places. Most attachments are indirect attachments involving either a tendon or an aponeurosis (sheet of tissue connecting muscles) Can be straplike, uniform thickness (sartorius) or fusiform, ticker in the middles tapering down to smaller ends (biceps brachii) Unipennate (eg: extensor digitorum longus) (half feather) Bipennate (eg: rectus (stright up and down) femoris) (full feather) Convergent: muscle is triangular or fan-shaped (eg: pectoralis major) Circular: concentric rings surround ext openings & contract to close opening (eg: obicularis oris) Muscles can work together or in opposition. 4 functional groups: prime movers, antagonists, synergists & fixators. Plays a very important role in allowing a movement to happen. Not blocking movement but helping to control it.
