Octavian wanted cicero to be his and antony"s spokesperson. Battle in 42 at phillipi in thrace, brutus and cassius are defeated. They both committed suicide. in 40, the triumphinate split up, but get back together. They decide to split the empire between themselves. Peace of brundisium antony gets the east, octavian gets the west. Antony and octavian have a marriage alliance: octavian"s sister (octavia) is married to antony. Antony wanted the east so he can conquer the partheons. Antony falls in love with cleopatra, dumping octavia. Octavian is back in rome: he has to deal with lepidus, sextus pompey. Octavian leads a propaganda ght against antony, labelling him as a drunk - for dumping. Antony gifts part of italy territory to cleopatra. In 32, octavian gets all of italy to swear a personal allegiance to him. Antony and cleopatra attack rst, bringing entire army up to actium.
