Gender and globalization in a transnational world. Genetic manipulation affects multiple aspects of life safety/quality of food; health & stability of environment; struggle bet. Gmo debates do not examine role of patriarchy & ongoing masculine quest for control: the domination of women, parallels the domination of food in the patriarchal sense, many problematic assumptions flow from assuming gender binaries. For centuries, men have fought wars, colonized, penetrated outer space for mastery of universe. Now w/ tools of biotech. , they are trying to colonize dna, the essence of life. Powerful white men want to be masters and possessors of nature : their definition of this has been dangerous and patriarchal, must remember power comes from race, and importantly socio- economic class. Most women don"t see themselves as masters of anything . Teaching girls that they are the masters of themselves. Man"s drive to dominate always dangerous to women, children, other living things.
