The successes in decreasing child mortality during the mdg years were achieved in part because the mdgs took a comprehensive approach to addressing the socioeconomic and environmental conditions that put some children at especially high risk. The sdgs aim to reduce the neonatal mortality rate by more than 35% between 2015 and. 2030, to less than 12 deaths per 1000 live births by 2030 (sdg 3. 2). Neonatal mortality accounts for a large proportion of pediatric deaths (birth to age 15 years) worldwide. The sdgs aim to substantially reduce the neonatal mortality rate.
