Document Summary
), (mono-omoi koi) reflective love (british library, london, england) You are not responsible for the entire chapter. In this section of the course, we shall examine a very difficult topic in psychology, the study of emotions. One of the reasons this is so difficult is that it is not easy to carry out true experiments on emotions. In any experiment we need to provide an operational definition of the variables. We also need to quantify (or measure) our variables. There must therefore be more or less of the emotions. Then even supposing we can define and somehow measure them, how can an experimenter manipulate emotions in a laboratory study. The experimenter might ask a subject to be very happy, perhaps even euphoric. In another condition, the experimenter might ask the subject to be extremely anger, perhaps furious. What the subject is doing is acting; the subject is not actually happy or angry.
