Sadness and anger show in expression at 3-4 months, fear @ 7 months. Guilt/shame etc. don"t appear until 2nd year of life. Understand meanings of facial expressions at 6 months old: socialization of emotions: inuit babies often held in pouch next to mother, babies held more don"t cry. Display rules=expectations and attitudes a society holds towards expression of affect. Children first tell feelings then learn to control them.
