They looked at how the infants responded to the diff sounds. When infants were listening to natural speech, the infants responded to it differently. New born infants show a receptiveness to language than to other sounds. They"re able to distinguish between different speech sounds. Within 2 days, they can distinguish between vowel sounds such as a and i. By the time they"re 2-3 months, they can distinguish between similar consonant sounds. 1 day olds will increase or decrease sucking rate to listen to music. Prefer music to noise without musical rhythm. Neonates turn towards pleasant odour and turn away from unpleasant odour. Breast pad w/mothers milk vs pad with no milk on opposite sides of their head . The baby turns to the pad w/mothers milk ; these babies are 2 days old ; babies prefer the smell of the milk to nothing.
