SOC 1101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Hidden Curriculum, Symbolic Interactionism
Document Summary
Some of the behaviours that manifest themselves may be the results of nature or nurture or as more research is done it maybe the effects of trauma. Social interaction internalize social expectations: recognize and respond socially, process of interacting, adjust and conform to expectations, also develop an individual identity, a self-concept. The behaviours we exhibit are the outcomes of these socializations. Children learn through mimicking and replicating behaviour, learning how to be members of societies i. e. dads, moms, athletes. Theories of socialization: process of internalizing socially approved norms and behavioral expectations, we"ve been socialized by the teachers who"ve come before us to understand the behaviours meant for the classroom. Symbolic interactionism: individuals actively participate in their own socialization, ex. Children are hard to control and implicate their own socialization and influence those around them (caretakers) in ways that effects that dynamic. Groups or social contexts in which significant socialization occurs.
