A brief history of the development of thought on human evolution: origin myths (universal concept,explanation of how human came into existence among all cultures) All human cultures seem to have a theory of belief surrounding the origins of humans. How humans are the ultimate products of creation: fixity (saying) of species : (idea of fixiation , that species have not change since they were created) Accepted that all living things created by god: great chain of being : hierarchal relationship between animals and humans (but still believes to the fixity of the species) 1st proposed by aristotle in 4th century bc. All animals arranged in a hierarchy that progressed from simplest to most complex. Why is it important? place all animals in a hierarchy, and within that hierarchy are humans, and is significant because places direct relationship between animals and humans: genus & species. John ray , 17 century came with the concept of species.
