Fixity of species: species have not changed since they were created, and all things were created. Great chain of being: hierarchal relationship between animals and humans (but stills believes to the fixity of species) Important: because places direct relationship between animals and humans. John ray came up with the concept of species. Important: because starts to categorize different organisms according to reproductive behaviour. Classified living things into hierarchy of taxonomic categories (based on characteristics) Added to ray"s genus/species, with class and order. Used binomial nomenclature: give a name made up of two terms, first identifies the genus, and second the species itself. Important: because suggests changes within the biological process on earth overtime. Important: because he was the first to determine there must be a check or balance. *lamarck was the first one that did not believe in the fixity of species. Any traits acquired during your life time, can transfer into your off spring.
