Grammatical capacities appear in infants before they"re necessary for survival. Not response to environment or based on conscious decision or formal instruction. Can"t speak like a native speaker if language is learned after puberty. Despite different languages, the reasons they can be translated into each other is because of human universal ground. What children pick up in domestic institutions. Doesn"t take into account hoe children can say things they didn"t imitate. By age 5, they imitate much less. When kids speak properly, they"re rewarded with praise, etc. Elders do not respond to incorrect grammar but they do respond to the content of what the kid is saying. Rules of language and communication are extracted from process of social interaction. Societies can"t exist without language and vice versa. Language is the process of becoming a member of society. Try things out + learn from social interaction. Babies can perceive sound differences before they can produce sounds.
