Hominization theory: the design features of language. There is little archeological evidence for the origins of language. Egyptian pharaoh named samtik gathered a bunch of newborns to see what languages they will spontaneously speak. Roman emporer frederick the second conducted an experiment to see what language isolated children would speak. They thought that they would speak hebrew, arabic etc. They learned that you cannot raise children without language. The results were that the children spoke hebrew. Someone else did the same experiment later and the result was that the children were mute. Origins of language diversity: bible explains in the story of the tower of babel. A king of babel wanted to build a tower high enough so he could meet god. God sent angels to confuse the workers by making them speak different languages so they couldn"t communicate to build the building. First described in plato"s cratylus dialogue featuring socrates, cratylus, and hermogenes.
