It"s never simply the acquisition of linguistic competence, it is the acquisition of cultural competence. Politeness: there"s different kinds of politeness in different situations. Incompetent--> fails in terms of turn taking & respect. Phonemes: the limits of sound in a language that we consider meaningful, the building blocks of language, its different for each language (ex. D. o. g. has 3 phonemes, 1 morpheme; dogs has 2 morpheme and 4 phonemes) Allomorphs: different sounds, same meaning (morpheme) in a language (churches [iz], rods [z], cooks [s]) Holophrastic production of meaning: using small one words to explain large meanings (ex. Babies may say hungry if they want to be fed) Two word grammar: i want a child may use this grammar to communicate what they mean, they are primitive but indicative of power in language.
