We live surrounded by those categories and they influence our lives. In cultural practices, people insist on using categories. Related to food, space, etc: they can be challenged and changed. Pollution: wen taboos are broken because different cultures are crossed. Rules regulate what is classified as a certain class, gender, etc: some insist upon bounded containers of meaning. Mary douglas: some things change meaning depending on the place. It belongs in the garden, not in the house (perfectly fine) (suddenly dirty) We act as if describing a simple fact when it really isn"t objective: e. g. left hand for old italians (siniestra = sinister) A person is something of constant practice, following certain rules designated for certain categories.
