ANT200H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Grave Goods, Taphonomy, Starch
Document Summary
How an item got where it is now found. 3d location of the find within the matrix. Depth, location tell where the archeological artifacts are discovered. Association two or more archaeological remains occurring together in the same matrix e. g. a ceramic pot containing fish bone found in a hearth. Use a special item from your place (bedroom, living room, kitchen, etc. ) as an example to explain how the association of the item can tell more and/or better reliable information about you than the item alone does. Context - the interpretation of the significance of the archaeological finds in terms of their provenience, matrix, and association: where archaeological remains are discovered, how they got there, their cultural meanings. Conditions in which both provenience and matrix have remained undisturbed since the original deposition: if provenience and matrix are undisturbed, the association is also intact. Alterations of provenience, association, and matrix cased by either human or natural activity.
