ANT200H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Nondestructive Testing, Remote Sensing, Landscape Arch
Document Summary
Survey involves none or minimum destructive processes. Do not disturb the ground or surface, occasionally do subsurface survey. Excavation is destructive, break through the ground. Reconnaissance locating and identify arch remains (could be one or more sites in region. Recording record as much as possible about arch remains in the field without excavation. Field walking direct inspection on the ground looking for arch evidence. Everything on the ground has an equal opportunity to be discovered (done with a team sometimes animals as well). Feasible only after harvest or in area with little to no vegetation. Aerial survey large features that are not physically exposed on the ground can sometimes be detected bin aerial photos. Not looking for small artifacts picture is taken using vertical image camera on the bottom of plane (better for making maps), oblique image camera is on the side of the plane (better for seeing the image).
