Shalmaneser iii hired skilled artists to create stone carvings depicting his accomplishments. Tribes: egalitarian societies with complex kin units. Chiefdoms: groups with centralized authority in the form of a hereditary chief. States: groups with stratified layers of authority (rank, classes) Similar artwork has been found in europe and africa.
