ANT211H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Inclusive Fitness, Ontogeny, Parthenogenesis
Document Summary
Natural selection competition in population for reproductive purposes. Certain individuals will be more successful reproductively than others. Natural section rests on idea that some of these traits are inherited and are passed on from parent to offspring and so have generational repercussions. Idea of competition because of differences for reproduction, certain people more reproductively successful aka pass on more offspring to next generation and therefore those traits are also passed on. Those offspring must reach sexual maturity and reproduce themselves. In certain environment, some traits are more better and thus will be more successful reproductively. to have evolutionary significance, must continue. Sociobiology founder wilson all behaviors related to reproduction. Suggest that from evolutionary perspective, every person acting for own genetic fitness ability to pass on their traits/genes into future generation. Reproductive fitness ability to attract, reproduce and raise them successfully so they become successful reproductive individuals in adulthood.
