ANT211H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Cuckold, Parental Investment, Sociobiology
Document Summary
Sexual selection and how they apply to mammalian species. Sociobiology idea that behaviours in human species reflect reproduction. Behaviour evolved in order to increase adaptive value a way to increase reproductive fitness. Today we are talking about the limitations of sociobiological theories. There are many behaviours cannot be clearly explained by sociobiology. In the human species, females have extensive female ornamentation/visual displays to attract males. There must be differences between available males large variance between males of genetic quality. Males must be in short supply shortage of males, therefore females will fight for availability of males. Males limit their mating effort for parental effort females will compete with each other for males with greatest parental effort (most widely apply to our species) Greater resources many resources to provide to offspring. Choose youth & health (moving towards a parental effort rather than mating effort) Males will be more conscious of female sexual behaviour, they"re more aware of cuckoldry.
