ANT211H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Resource Consumption, Ovulation, Statistical Parameter
Document Summary
Ant211 sex roles & parental care: life history strategies. A life history strategy is how an organism allocates its efforts over its lifetime in order to maximize fitness. Way an organism maximizes their fitness by allocating different resources and energy. Invest all energy and resources into one reproductive effort and you die. There is an inter-birth period before you become pregnant again. Budget energy between reproductive effort & somatic effort (divided into growth & maintenance) Allocation of resources between body size & reproduction - certain body size. Sexual bimaturism is when 2 different sexes will reach sexual maturity at different times in the same species. Commonly seen in polygamous species direct male competition. Sexual dimorphism: males tend to be significantly larger than females. Sexual bimaturism: a sex difference in the age of first reproduction (may be either sex that matures first)
