Document Summary

Proximal end: head, anatomical neck where epicondyle is fused to the rest of everything, greater and lesser tubercles, separated by bicipital intertubercular groove, surgical neck where it gets constricted, fractures common. Shaft/diaphysis primary centre of ossification: deltoid tuberosity for deltoid muscle, nutrient foramen halfway down on shaft, towards the elbow blood flows. Distal: medial and later epicondyle, supracondylar ridge, capitulum and trochlea, coronoid (on anterior surface) and olecranon fossae (what ulna goes into creating the elbow) Lateral of 2 forearm bones (ulna is medial) Proximal epiphysis (perfect circle allowing for rotation of elbow)fuses to shaft 16-18 years. Head, fovea (articular surface scooped out circle), neck. Radial/bicipital tuberosity insertion for bicep muscles. Nutrient foramen towards the elbow (proximal end) Concave medial border with interosseous crest thinning of bone. Pronator quadratus insertion scooped up surface anterior. Styloid process if in anatomical position with scooped surface up whichever side. Insertion for pronator teres roughly midshaft styloid is indicates which arm it is.
