I am a student from the university of toronto writing to you, to advice you to take action against pollution that has been taking place in river anacostia which flows from prince george"s. An effort to restore the anacostia is getting underway and more money should be spent on pump station rehabilitation, pipe cleaning and maintenance, and public notices of overflows in order to save water quality as well as aquatic lives. The sewage also creates health threats due to fecal caliform bacteria, sediment, nutrients, pathogens, toxins, trash and many other pathogens. It also contaminates the river water and creates hypoxic conditions that can lead to aquatic death, which will make it unsafe to swim in or eat its fish. Another large source of pollution for this river is the washington navy yard that is situated alongside the river, which is known to be a source of pcb contaminants in the river and sediment.
