Females typically produce less offspring than males. Fitness is limited by the ability to gain resources necessary to produce/rear young. A experiment was done taking the tail off and gluing it back. The results are that long tail have advantage they produce more nests. Example 2: barn swallows with longer tail find mates faster than those with shorten tails. Example 3 : tungara frog ( complex call can attract females but also attract predator and cause it to die), individuals with shorter complex call survive better and therefore reproduce more. Example 4 : hanging fly : the longer the prei bigger food it can get and therefore feed better the female and nests. Example 5 : zebra finches female choose their mates according to how their dads looked like (imprinting behavior in females). Males that eat more carotenoids has a brighter colored beak. Females choose males with brighter colors on their beaks.
