Document Summary

Final lecture! (thursday will be a full review session) The prescriber can obtain disease-drug interactions and drug-drug interaction before filling out the prescription. This all plays a factor in whether or not the patient will adhere to the treatment. The goal is to minimize prescribing error and facilitate patient compliance to treatments. If a patient fails to take a medication, it"ll be more expensive to treat the patient afterwards. It"s better to take preventative measures to reduce disease. As soon as you deviate from treatment regimen, your condition worsens, and you"ll need to go to a hospital (huge ripple-effect on health system) Very useful for healthcare professionals; for example, doctors can use the ontario labs informational system, or visit digital health drug repository, and even access a drug profile viewer. This is maybe because patients cannot afford medications. They either take the wrong dose, or wrong frequency of administration.
