BIO201H5 Lecture 14: 24
Document Summary
Trees have insulating bark that protects them from fire. Trees will be killed if ground fire becomes crown fires and gets on tree canopy where needles are: crown fire. Lots of energy released, kill any trees that gets engulfed by fire: serotinous cones has adaptation to seedling after a fire. Epicornic sprouting where dormant bud remains underneath bark. After bark has been charred and existing branches burn off, buds are released and can make new lateral branches: tropical relationships in communities, trophic ecology: who eats what/whom, tropic levels, based on where their energy came from. Primary consumers = herbivores: also called, secondary producers, produce e in their own bodies. Secondary consumers = carnivores who eat herbivores. Tertiary consumers = carnivores who eat secondary consumers. Doing well, lots of golden focus on finding and eating golden rods rods. Golden rods are relased from predators/pest pressure.
