Document Summary

Bio 205 lecture 5 life history factors. Ex 1 the bigger the seed, the fewer the number or the inverse, the smaller the seed the higher the amount (negative correlation) The more offspring there is competition within the nest for limited resources. The parents want all the offspring to leave the nest and survive but using the least amount of energy which would be used for the next breeding season. Ex 3 negative correlation between parental investment and environmental quality: for salmon, the worse the environmental quality, the bigger the egg size. Parity: there are semelparous and iteroparous, the plant decides whether to be semelparous or iteroparous due to environmental conditions. Produce twice as many fruits, flowers and germinated seeds than iteroparous species. Produce when conditions are good, and resources are high, so they can put a lot of energy into one structure. In an environment where there are seasonal differences, the plant can produce when the weather is better.
