Typical prokaryotic cell: escherichia coli- very imp bacteria. Very imp biological entity in the intestines of human beings. It"s a rather amorphous map of chemicals, current technology cannot comprehend its complexity. It has to be self-replicated: able to make itself over and over again. Has a doubling time of 20 min: within which it requires nutrients from env, have energy reserves, replicate dna, a whole process of fundamental biological phenomenon"s occur. A single cell can manufacture 4. 7 x 1021 cells. E. coli itself is relatively simple organism, one cell leads to a clone of itself, identical to every other cell it manufactures. Our cell is 10 micrometer in diameter: in many ways is similar to e coli (picture shows human embryo, the screen is not a computer screen but a micrometer) We see tremendous diversity but also tremendous similarity b/w human beings. We can recognize animals as being distinct from humans.
