Lecture 1A – Introduction to Human Anatomy
and Physiology and Homeostasis
Physiology
• Physiology is the study of how living organisms perform their vital functions.
Animal physiology focuses on the function of the tissues, organs, and organ
systems of multicellular animals.
• Physiology is an integrative science
Physiology is the study of function
Structure and function are interrelated
-The elbow joint works like a hinge where forward and backward movement is permitted
but not twisting. This is because of the physiological restriction, the joint capsule
prevents for any twisting movement.
