Document Summary

Lecture 6b appendicular movement: bones and joints notes. Ball-and-socket joint (bony element of the humerus fits into a cup support in the scapula: same for the femur and hip association. Many degrees of freedom around this joint multiaxial and many movements in the different planes. Abduction is moving away from the body and adduction is moving towards the body. Flexion in the shoulder joint is raising the arm up not flexing the bicep at the elbow: extension is putting the arms down. Supination and pronation of the hand is not the same as medial and lateral rotation need to focus the movement in the shoulder. When medial rotating the shoulder, you"re rotating the shoulder towards the medial of the body, lateral rotation is towards the lateral of the body. Circumduction is doing arm circles (but the arm is at a fixed point) Flexion at the hip is bringing the entire leg up and extension is putting the leg behind you.
