Document Summary

Left over from term test 4 so not a big focus on term test 5 more so on the midterm. Cerebrum is the processing centre (thought, memory, sensory information, information to skeletal muscles) Outer layer of the cerebrum is the cortex, if you cut it up its really gray matter and in the middle is the white matter. Diencephalon connects the cerebrum to the deeper areas of the brain: has a lot to do with sensory interpretation with emotion and memories (important for mental health, link between consciousness and unconsciousness. Midbrain (mesencephalon) visual and auditory information processing and consciousness. Pons is important for somatic and visceral control (autonomic nervous system) Cerebellum is about 10% of the volume of the brain, but contains about 50% of the neurons: very important for subconscious motor control. Medulla oblongata is also autonomic nervous system. Fissures are the deep black lines that are spaces between the fold.
