Document Summary

Carry lymph from lymph capillaries venous system. Endothelial cells of lymphatic capillaries have gaps that allow entry of interstitial fluids and solids (proteins, viruses: foreign bodies immunity) Lymphatic capillaries lymphatic vessels lymphatic trunks lymphatic ducts veins. Right lymphatic duct ascends along the right side of the body & drains into right subclavian vein. Thoracic duct ascends along the left side of the body & drains into left subclavian vein. Lymphedema condition in which interstitial fluid accumulate affected area becomes swollen. Tonsils large lymphoid nodules: one pharyngeal tonsil posterior to nasopharynx. Left + right palatine tonsils posterior, inferior margin of oral cavity. Tonsillitis inflammation of tonsils esp palatines, more common. Lymph nodes detect pathogens until they reach vital organs of the trunk. Malt defends the exposed epithelia, contains much of epithelial tissue. Appendicitis inflammation of lymphoid tissue of appendix. Thymus produce thymosin development of lymphocytes / t cells.
