Document Summary

Apollo was always seen as beautiful exceptionally handsome. Hephaestus was always depicted as ugly dual character, ugly yet intelligent. Dealing with a set of myths dealing with the life realm and on the other side with death. We go from life to death and the events inbetween. Female fertility was seen as the ultimate driving force of creation. No single female mother goddess in the historical period we study, in earlier times there was such evidence. Hera as goddess of woman but never referred to as a mother goddess and her asexual birth shows her as a problematic motherly image if she can be seen as such. Not directly related to fertility of mortal woman, more specifically it is anything that gives life (of the earth) Greeks relied heavily on agriculture and harvest to sustain life, therefore worship to her was important and common.
