Document Summary

Bio310 lecture 6 organization of the nervous system. More sophisticated thinking may involve turning off the stove (involves the brain) Neuronal elements in a nervous system: cockroach will feel the wind movement which moves the antennae which will relay this info to the nervous system (ganglia) there is no brain or spinal cord. Interneurons (located within the grey matter) decide if the stimulation coming from the sensory neurons is worth it to communicate to the motor neurons (depending on intensity of the signal) Inhibitory interneuron (not connected to motor neuron) and the excitatory interneuron is connected to the motor neuron. So if i want to contract the muscle on the right side this is a stimulatory/ excitatory post-synaptic potential. Interneurons will decide whether it"s excitatory or inhibitory: spinal cord in the somatic part can process information and then make the decision (influence from higher centres if needed).
