Document Summary

Membrane tissues not part of final embryo and late to developing embryo - physically outside but part of embryo. Exist as a byproduct of cell division of early stages of embryo development. When egg starts to divide after fertilization - we end up with 3 germ layers. Responsible for all tissues which lead to evolution of vertebrate embryo and form part of the extraembryonic membranes. The multi cell stage develops and develops to end with the 3 layers which then undergo unusual interactions with embryo and the material that will surround the embryo. Birds this is the egg and in mammals it is the placenta/amnion. Ectoderm starts to fold in on itself in gastrulation process - cells leave ectoderm and become this unspecialized tissue called the neural crest. A lot of derivation of these tissues early on. Neural crest is one of those tissue - a major component of the developing embryo.
