The palate forms after the opening of the oral cavity and before the nasal cavity forms. The nasal placodes form the nasal pits. Through the nasal choanae are the openings to the air sinuses that fill your facial bones. The pituitary gland, which is the chief of the endocrine gland, develops simultaneously. It is formed by three lobes: the anterior two lobes are glandular tissue, the posterior lobe is neural tissue. It derives from two sources: the neural tube and the oral cavity.
