Document Summary

Bio 380 lecture 24 the digestive system. The pancreas and the spleen develop from the dorsal mesogastrium. The greater omentum is derived from the dorsal mesogastrium and it covers the small and large intestine. It consists of connective tissue and blood vessel. It is a double layer of the peritoneal lining. The endodermal tube grows longer via fgf-9. It reaches a point when the abdominal cavity is not large enough to carry the intestine. The superior mesentery artery supplies the hair pin loop of the growing intestine. The loop is still attached to the yolk sac via the yolk stalk: the midgut and the hindgut are only attached to the posterior abdominal cavity. Though the large intestine is derived from the hindgut, it is found around the mid area due to the rotation. As the intestine elongates, it grows within the yolk stalk, until the embryo grows: at the 9th week, the intestines return to the abdominal cavity.
