Document Summary

An in vitro assay was developed to track the movement of kinesin heads on an immobilized microtubule filament using quantum dots. Three different kinesin heads were examined and their positions on the microtubule over time are indicated by the blue, green and brown dots. The steps that kinesin proteins take are not smooth movements they are step like. The higher it goes up on the y-axis indicates the step size. The x axis indicates how broad that step is, and indicates the time b/w steps. The nucleotide hydrolysis rate determines how fast each step occurs. Every cell has a layer of actin cytoskeleton underneath the plasma membrane called the cell cortex. Focal adhesions have transmembrane proteins called integrins. Invadopodia and podosomes - 3d projections filled with an actin-filament gel. Blebbing - special type of membrane protrusion. Actin web as a whole seems to undergo treadmilling.
