Document Summary

Water: water- also a huge component of the human body, life on this planet evolved in an aqueous material, also chemical rxns needs aq. Env: also allows proteins to fold a certain way- leading to their function, likewise the dna- the nitrogenous bases avoid water so aids their structure, hemoglobin protein: When huge macromolecules crystallize, after air drying them, you sometimes might put them in a vacuum- the red dots represents water. Becomes integral part of their structure: cytochrome and water: Cytochrome f- the water molecules that make up the channel for h-bond bridging amino acids together eg: glu and asp bringing the proteins together and folding them. Water helps: dissolve like nutrients, it is a reactant, transport- like in the blood, heat sink: water has high heat capacity; it takes a lot of energy to change water"s temperature, which helps us maintain our temp.
