CIN306H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Girlfriend, Simon Critchley, Anthropocentrism
Document Summary
Anthropomorphism: the projection of human attributes onto non-human beings and objects. 1: the belief that the human is at the center of existence; the most important of all beings and things in the universe. The jealous person (or the lover in any case to a certain extent) wants there to be a relationship only between them and that lover; they want themselves to be the only ones. I. e. amy"s dad wanting and believing he"s the only one her mom has ever slept with; he wants to see a world where her mother has no other lovers. I. e. john wants to see amy do it with the dog so that he will be introduced to her world and understand her language. Why? because she doesn"t want him to shame her. She isn"t ashamed, but she doesn"t want him to shame her and potentially ruin their recent engagement.
