Sacrifice was one of the most common rituals. Most people often perform vegetal sacrifice bc animals are expensive. When sacrificing, in roman religion, the people performing the sacrifice viel their heads. Don"t need priests to sacrifice (state officials, magistrates often sacrifice) Slaves often perform the actual slaughtering of animals for sacrifice. Sacrifice could but did not have to consist of several steps. Images usually compress all steps of sacrifice into one. Romans show images of slaughtering more than greeks. If they weren"t like the model organ, the god did not accept. Most often sacrifice was a routine affair (therefore people didn"t document it) Ex. pass by alter and sprinkle grain/salt. Not always extravagant sacrifice like bulls on daily basis. The months of the athenian year during which the sacrifices in this deme took place.
