Bisociation
Creating involves relating two normally independent frames of reference
Bisociation - two mutually incompatible contexts, or bisociation of matrices
Bisociation can also be a method in choosing a creative or art direction
Creative Direction
Transcends to a creative level; does not have to be the physical aspects but the idea
of the objects/material/task
Things, method, services etc.
Art Direction
Deals with art visually
Form, texture, design
Connects to aesthetics
Visual (General understanding of aesthetics)
Humanistic
(enhances body, mind, soul)
ie. Yoga, music, physical exercises
(Think of adjectives to think of the art direction that is appropriate to the message)
Example
Creative Direction
The idea of the wheel and the shovel helping to complete a task
Think about the method and service of the creative direction
Art Direction
Design of the overall contraption
The letter Y design in the wheel
(helps to serve the purpose of the visual decoration but can also serve a
functional direction; re- enforces the wheel)
Example: Horror Movies
Elements in the horror movie may help make the movie enhance its visual language
ie. Gore may not be visually appealing but it can help to enhance the horror element of the
movie.
Be inspired by art movements and styles
