Patents cover inventions and innovations for 20 years. The right to stop someone from manufacturing, selling or using inventions. As long as you are doing business under that brand name successfully but not too successfully, you have got trademark protection. Google hates when we use it as a verb because if it becomes a part of our language, their trademark will be removed: sometimes it becomes commonly subjective. Coca-cola"s formula (you are not supposed to know what their formula is).
