In science: large datasets; processing and using the data sets. You may have a few thousand cases. Social media: data collected by people using their service. Includes postings, direct messages, viewing etc; billions of cases. Dealing with large amounts of data; in research, collecting data points. Lots of data being collected for other kinds of purposes. Being aware of the data being collected. When designing a survey, you have a very specific purpose in mind. Have people to install the app and collect call logs. Call logs are captured on the respective mobile phones. Hard to make generalizations for smaller groups of a large population of a different majority (ie. immigration) When rare events happen, data is collected on them. When you have a fairly small amount of people, you may find similar patterns. May or may not be good at telling information in an accurate way. Can study what hasn"t been studied before.
